How to Prepare Your Garage for Epoxy Installation Day

Getting your garage ready for epoxy installation is simple. Here's exactly what you need to do before our crew arrives — and what we handle for you.

You've booked your epoxy floor installation — congratulations! You're about to transform your garage from a dusty, stained concrete slab into a stunning, durable showroom floor. Here's exactly what you need to do before our crew arrives, and what you can leave to us.

What You Need to Do (The Homeowner Checklist)

1. Clear the Garage Completely

This is the most important step. We need the entire floor area empty and accessible. That means:

Move all vehicles out of the garage

Remove shelving units and anything attached to the floor

Clear all tools, storage bins, and equipment from the floor area

Move items against walls if they're not on the floor (wall-mounted shelves are fine)

Pro tip: This is a great opportunity to declutter. Many of our customers use installation day as motivation to organize their garage — donate what you don't need, and plan a better layout for when the new floor is done.

2. Ensure Access to Power

Our diamond grinders and equipment need standard 120V power outlets. Make sure at least one outlet in or near the garage is accessible and working. If your garage doesn't have power, let us know in advance and we'll bring a generator.

3. Plan for 2–5 Days Without Garage Access

Your garage will be off-limits during installation:

Day 1: Surface preparation (grinding, crack repair, cleaning)

Day 2–5: Epoxy application and topcoat

After 24 hours: Light foot traffic is okay

After 72 hours: Vehicles can return

Plan to park in the driveway or on the street during this time.

4. Consider Weather (For Ventilation)

Epoxy application works best with good ventilation. If possible, schedule your installation during mild weather when we can keep the garage door partially open. We can work in any season, but spring and fall are ideal in Vancouver.

5. Secure Pets and Children

Our equipment is loud and the workspace contains chemicals. Please keep pets and children away from the garage area during installation for their safety.

What We Handle (Leave This to Us)

Surface Preparation

We diamond-grind the entire floor to create the proper profile for epoxy adhesion. This removes any existing coatings, paint, or sealers and opens the concrete pores.

Crack and Joint Repair

All cracks, chips, and expansion joints are professionally repaired before coating. We use flexible fillers that move with the concrete.

Moisture Testing

We test your concrete for moisture content. If levels are too high, we apply a moisture barrier before the epoxy system.

Cleaning and Decontamination

After grinding, we vacuum and clean the entire surface to remove all dust and debris. The floor must be perfectly clean for proper adhesion.

Full Epoxy System Application

Primer, base coat, flake/metallic application, and topcoat — all applied by our certified installers with professional equipment.

Day-of-Installation Tips

Be available by phone in case we have questions about your preferences

Don't worry about the noise — diamond grinding is loud but only lasts a few hours

Check in when invited — we love showing customers the progress, especially the "reveal" moment

Plan your vehicle return — we'll let you know exactly when it's safe to drive on the new floor

After Installation Care

Once your floor is cured (72 hours for vehicles), maintenance is simple:

Sweep or blow out debris weekly

Mop with warm water and mild soap as needed

Clean up chemical spills promptly

That's it — no waxing, no polishing, no special treatments

Your new epoxy floor will look stunning for 20+ years with this minimal care routine.
